Sar Pass, perched at 13,800 feet above sea level, gives the beauty of a lush green environment and is a photographer’s, artist’s, and nature lover’s dream. 

The Sar Pass trek traverses through some of the most picturesque sights ranging from woods to meadows to ice blankets, all set against a backdrop of breathtaking Himalayan peaks draped in snow. The walk begins in Kasol, a destination for travelers from all over the world that draws enormous weekend crowds, many of whom are city kids looking for a taste of the bohemian lifestyle. The shops are well-stocked with both needs and luxuries to appeal to the tourists.

How to reach By train: 

Chandigarh, the nearest railway station, is 310 kilometers distant. From here, a government or private bus to Kasol is easily accessible. Another alternative is to book a private cab, which is a bit more expensive.

By flight: 

Bhuntar Airport, which is well connected to all major airports via Delhi and Chandigarh, is the closest airport. Because the distance between Kasol and Bhuntar Airport is 32 kilometers, you can take a government/private bus or rent a private tourist cab from Bhuntar to get to Kasol.

By car: 

The most convenient way to get to Kasol is via car. Buses to Bhuntar are readily available from all major cities, including Chandigarh, Delhi, and others. To go to Kasol, you can take a government/private bus or hire a private tourist cab from Bhuntar.

General tips and techniques

  • Make sure you wear warm clothes irrespective of the time in which you choose to travel.
  • Always Carry and be prepared with your own trekking appliances and supplies.
  • Carry your normal medicines if you consume any and always have a medical aid kit on your journey.
  • A decent and comfortable hiking pair of shoes is an obligation.
  • Carry rain gear irrespective of whether you are traveling in the rain or not.
  • Make sure that you get all the permissions you need for the trekking journey in the region you choose to trek well in advance.
  • Make sure you are carrying the camera’s replacement batteries and film roll as there would not be a power supply everywhere you camp or stay.

Level of difficulty

The route to the camp is moderately difficult, although it becomes steep near the finish. The camp is located in the little town of Grahan. It’s just as lovely as its forerunners. Grahan is an old village surrounded by rhododendron trees with traditional Himalayan homes. After Grahan, the rise is steep and difficult. Walking at a slow and steady pace is recommended for proper acclimatization. The next campground is Minh Thach, where people used to graze their animals. 

Reasons to do Camping:

The Sar Pass trek takes four days to complete once it begins in Kasol. Spending the night in the Alpine tents at the campgrounds will be a fun and memorable experience.
